A Brief History of Johnny Dylan:
JD is a professional singer, songwriter & guitarist who has been playing
professionally since the age of 15. With his classical operatic vibrato style of
rock singing he has entertained audiences all over New Zealand.
He has just finished a full-length CD called Momentos, comprising of 13 totally
original songs co-written with Doug Thomas. He is presently negotiating with a
major record company through the management of Wellington business entrepreneur
Rob Acton.
JD is currently based in Taranaki where he & Doug Thomas are
working on compositions for his second full length CD, which is almost ready to
take to the studios in Auckland for backing & instrumental tracks. Like
Momentos it has a strong Latin feel, which is the direction & genre that JD excels at. His great grand father was a full-blooded Spaniard &
captain in the Royal Spanish Navy, which gives his songs an authentic
Spanish/Latin feel & flavour.
JD works live with his band JD & The Notorious Hobo Gang doing standard
R&B covers as well as his solo "JD Acoustic Revue" live act which
takes him nation-wide, performing classic folk songs. This versatile singer
covers Latin, R&B & folk songs as well as rock styles.
Coming from a strong musical background of Opera singers - his Father, David
Alexander Maconaghie, a silver tenor, had leading rolls in Gilbert &
Sullivan operas In Auckland & uncle Ronald Maconaghie, a professional
barotone singer, based in Europe with a famous Opera company, performed
world-wide in operas & did an album with Kiri Te kanawa as well as albums
with other notable singers of the day. He currently teaches opera singing in
